Lori Khatchadourian
Lori Khatchadourian is associate professor of Near Eastern studies at Cornell University. She holds a Ph.D. in classical art and archaeology from the University of Michigan. Her research uses the methods of archaeology and ethnography to study the relations between people, politics, and the material world of objects, landscapes, and built environments. Khatchadourian pursues this concern with the materiality of political life across temporal boundaries—ancient and modern—with a particular focus on Armenia and the South Caucasus. Her research revolves around problems of empire, modernity, heritage, Soviet socialism and its afterlife. Khatchadourian is the author of Imperial Matter: Ancient Persia and the Archaeology of Empires (2016).
