Jodi Magness

Jodi Magness is the Kenan Distinguished Professor for Teaching Excellence in Early Judaism in the Department of Religious Studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She has a B.A. in archaeology from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and a Ph.D. in classical archaeology from the University of Pennsylvania. Magness specializes in the archaeology of Palestine in the Roman, Byzantine, and Early Islamic periods and Diaspora Judaism in the Roman world. Since 2011, she has been directing excavations at Huqoq in Israel’s Galilee. In January 2014, Magness was elected First Vice President of the Archaeological Institute of America.
