E.J.W. Barber
E.J.W. Barber is professor emerita of archaeology and linguistics at Occidental College, holding degrees in archaeology, Greek, and linguistics from Bryn Mawr and Yale. Her research centers on early western Eurasian textiles; archaeology of brain and language; evolution of myth, ritual, dance, writing, and other modes of transmitting information; and second language acquisition. In addition to many articles, she is the author of Archaeological Decipherment (Princeton 1974), Prehistoric Textiles (Princeton 1991), Women’s Work: The First 20,000 Years (New York 1994), The Mummies of Ürümchi (London and New York 1999), and coauthor with Paul Barber of When They Severed Earth from Sky: How the Human Mind Shapes Myth (Princeton 2005).
