Rebecca R. Benefiel

Rebecca R. Benefiel is associate professor of classics at Washington & Lee University and specializes in Latin epigraphy and Roman social history. Educated at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, L’Università di Roma “La Sapienza,” and Harvard University, she is a fellow of the American Academy at Rome and was the 2008–2009 recipient of the Olivia James Traveling Fellowship from the Archaeological Institute of America. She coedited the volume Inscriptions in the Private Sphere in the Greco-Roman World (Leiden and Boston 2016) and is director of the Ancient Graffiti Project.
